Set in New Orleans at the end of the 19th century and rich with the lush decadence of the French Quarter, The Awakening is a compelling story of a woman who undergoes a social, sexual, and spiritual transformation and is set to a score of blues, ragtime, soul, and opera. Condemned upon its publication in 1899,The Awakening is now an American literary classic. ESP theatre‘s production was originally conceived at Book-It Repertory Theatre and adapted from the Kate Chopin novel by Rebecca Chase with music by Myra Platt.
